Adobe unveiled its Flash 10.1
Bangalore: Adobe Systems is preparing to release an updated version of its Flash software. The update is set to improve the quality of video played on mobile phones and, Adobe hopes, will quash the criticism coming from Apple CEO Steve Jobs. With Evans Data now reporting over 3 million Flash developers, it's a platform that's gone a long way beyond its original designer audience. Flash 10.1 is the first mobile version of the full Flash player and Android will be the first platform with full Flash support.
In an interview Adobe Systems' Vice President David Wadhwani said that Flash 10.1 will be unveiled at a Google-sponsored conference and Flash Player 10.1 is a major update, with support for new interaction models and APIs. There's support for multi-touch, for gestures, and for accelerometers. The same features will work on mobile devices and on touch desktop and notebook devices.
The release of the revamped Flash follows a campaign by Apple CEO Steve Jobs in which he systematically highlighted the platform's flaws. Jobs upped the ante when he banned Flash from all Apple devices, including the newly launched iPad.
Mike Olson, an analyst at Piper Jaffray said, "Given everything that's going on between Apple and Adobe, it's critical for Adobe to get Flash up and running on other handset manufacturers devices in the next six to 12 months."

ISB, ICFAI among 201 institutes running without approval: HRD minister Sibal
In what seems like a warning to students of several private institutions, government has said that there are a number of private colleges that have been imparting technical and management courses without the mandatory approval from the All India Council for Technical Education.
As per HRD minister Kapil Sibal, there are 201 such intuitions across the country, quotes a report in a national daily.
The big names include Indian School of Business, Hyderabad( Admission through GMAT); ICFAI Business School, Delhi, Gurgaon and Chandigarh; Ansal Institute of Technology, Gurgaon; Indian Institute of Planning and Management, Delhi; K R Mangalam Global Institute of Management, New Delhi; J K Business School Gurgaon; M B Birla Institute of Management Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Bangalore; and Sikkim Manipal University, Bangalore.
As per Sibal, AICTE regulations say that no technical institution shall be started and no new courses or programmes shall be introduced without obtaining prior approval of the council.
As per a study conducted by the government, Maharashtra tops the list with 74 such institutions followed by 24 in Delhi, 22 in Karnataka, 19 in Tamil Nadu and 13 each in West Bengal and Uttar Pradesh.
Students have also been warned by UGC to stay clear of 21 fake universities running in violation of provisions of the UGC Act. The 21 fake universities include eight in Uttar Pradesh and seven in Delhi.
Talking to the media on how to tackle with these ‘fake’ universities, Sibal told media that AICTE and UGC have been taking the aid of media to caution students and parents against enrolling themselves in these universities. He added, “Statutory bodies have also been advised to launch effective campaigns against such institutions which are fake and to take appropriate action under law. The media has also been requested to refuse to publish misleading ads by such institutions.”
He also said government is considering to bring in a law to check unfair practices in educational institutes. According to this legislative proposal, those institutions will be punished which claim to be recognised by statutory authorities.

HP and Sify Technologies to launch cloud service
The new deal of Sify technologies and HP to lauch Sify's much-in-demand cloud services would be extended using converged infrastructure of HP. A source reveals that 80 percent of Sify's revenue comes from its cloud services.
Cloud computing is the method to access software applications, through the internet. Siffy would provide customers with the offer 'pay-per-use'. This will help customers who do not own expensive software.
"A number of industries are experiencing spiraling growth in data services. Sify's new service will enable customers to source technology without compromising on performance, technology and control," said P J Nath, Executive President of Enterprise Business, Sify.
The kinds of services included are Infrastructure-as-a-service, Software-as-a-service and Platform-as-a service. These new services are ductile and less expensive than the previous methods.
The pact is said to focus more on the investment in the medium business firms that is amplifying at a faster pace.

Energy efficiency, a key driver of Cloud Computing
During the economic slowdown, firms shifted to the 'Cloud' by considering the cost benefits involved, now with the improved market condition, energy saving is emerging as a significant factor for cloud computing adoption.
"There is a lot of work that we in the semiconductor industry do to develop solutions that makes cloud computing more energy efficient," says Paramesh Gopi, CEO and President of Applied Micro, a fabless semiconductor firm, providing energy efficient solutions. According to him, 2.2 percent of the U.S. electricity bills are accounted for by datacenters.
A study was conducted by Greenpeace on cloud computing vendor NetSuite to determine the energy savings of NetSuite's customers. By vastly reducing the need for servers and support equipment, such as server room air conditioning, Greenpeace found that the average NetSuite customer can cut its electricity bill by more than $10,000 per year. When added to the overall costs of hardware, software licenses, maintenance, personnel and occupancy, NetSuite calculates the cost reductions can exceed $100,000 per year, per customer.
The study also found that with more than 6,000 customers sharing datacenter resources, NetSuite's platform saved more than $61 million in energy bills per year. These savings amount to nearly 595 million kilowatt-hours annually, the equivalent of nearly 423,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide per year, which is the average electricity consumption of 56,000 homes per year.
In order to expand its portfolio, recently Applied Micro launched its APM801xx family of energy-efficient embedded processors with a small form factor for Power Architecture-based products. The company's India design center at Pune, which was started in 2008, also plays a crucial role in designing these products, according to the CEO. The company currently has a headcount of 100 in India with plans to ramp it up to 160 by the end of this year.

CLOUD COMPUTING
Cloud computing is becoming one of the next industry buzz words. It joins the ranks of terms including: grid computing, utility computing, virtualization, clustering, etc.
Cloud computing overlaps some of the concepts of distributed, grid and utility computing, however it does have its own meaning if contextually used correctly. The conceptual overlap is partly due to technology changes, usages and implementations over the years.
Trends in usage of the terms from Google searches shows Cloud Computing is a relatively new term introduced in the past year. There has also been a decline in general interest of Grid, Utility and Distributed computing.
Likely they will be around in usage for quit a while to come. But Cloud computing has become the new buzz word driven largely by marketing and service offerings from big corporate players like Google, IBM and Amazon.

The term cloud computing probably comes from (at least partly) the use of a cloud image to represent the Internet or some large networked environment. We don’t care much what’s in the cloud or what goes on there except that we depend on reliably sending data to and receiving data from it. Cloud computing is now associated with a higher level abstraction of the cloud. Instead of there being data pipes, routers and servers, there are now services. The underlying hardware and software of networking is of course still there but there are now higher level service capabilities available used to build applications. Behind the services are data and compute resources. A user of the service doesn’t necessarily care about how it is implemented, what technologies are used or how it’s managed. Only that there is access to it and has a level of reliability necessary to meet the application requirements.

Launched in 2007, Cloud Expo is the world's largest Cloud Computing event.
In essence this is distributed computing. An application is built using the resource from multiple services potentially from multiple locations. At this point, typically you still need to know the endpoint to access the services rather than having the cloud provide you available resources. This is also know as Software as a Service. Behind the service interface is usually a grid of computers to provide the resources. The grid is typically hosted by one company and consists of a homogeneous environment of hardware and software making it easier to support and maintain. (note: my definition of a grid is different from the wikipedia definition, but homogeneous environments in data centers is typically what I have run across). Once you start paying for the services and the resources utilized, well that’s utility computing.
Cloud computing really is accessing resources and services needed to perform functions with dynamically changing needs. An application or service developer requests access from the cloud rather than a specific endpoint or named resource. What goes on in the cloud manages multiple infrastructures across multiple organizations and consists of one or more frameworks overlaid on top of the infrastructures tying them together. Frameworks provide mechanisms for:

Don’t Put All Your Eggs in the Facebook Basket
While Facebook may be a hot marketing tool right now, there is danger in putting too much effort into making it the center of your marketing efforts.
Facebook should be a tool in your marketing toolbox … just not the only tool.
I have personally seen some adverse marketing in Twitter and the same is happening with Facebook now and soon the Orkut will not be a reliable source of promotion as well. The social networking sites are implementing these tools so that they can increase the traffic on one particular website.
So, don't rely on one set of marketing but start advertising on different avanues.

Adbrite is better than Google Adsense
If you are serious about business! please click here
When deciding which company to use to earn income from links, most people choose Google Adsense. I am here to say Google Adsense sucks. It is a poor comparison to Adbrite. You can cater Adbrite ads to fit in with your site for a nice smooth look and even add full page ads that rotate between your pages. Adbrite also offers advertisers the chance to have their links displayed on some of the top webpages on the internet. Some sites getting 470,000 hits per day. Imagine having your link on their page and actually being within a reasonable budget. Adbrite is better than Google Adsense and more user friendly.
Adbrite "Rocks!" compared to Google's Adsense
Adbrite kicks Adsense butt!
Adbrite blows Google's Adsense off the charts with it's customizing options and awesome revenue generation. You can actually pick what type of ads run on your site, where to place them, and reject the ones you don't want. I have made 300% more income from Adbrite than I made from Google adsense. I love the fact I can pick ads that are related to my site or that pay more than only a few pennies a cpc. I have some ads that pay up to $1.00 per cpc. Granted people have to click on them.
Here is an update on my use of Adbrite vs. Adsense. I still am averaging 10x the income using adbrite. For every 1000 clicks I get on my site Google has paid me $0.05 and Adbrite has paid me $1.25. That is a big difference. Adbrite also breaks down the stats by which post or ad is most clicked on and is generating the most income. I can pick and choose the ad placement, screen ads and deny the vendors I do not want. So far Google is still crappy in comparison.
Remember the key to more money is advertising, advertising, and more advertising. Online advertising is a hard industry to crack and growing more difficult each day. You need to maximize the tools at your disposal. Adbrite allows you to use other sources of paid advertising in their code. Imagine running an adbrite ad on your site and seeing your google ads running in the same window, bar or post. Adbrite will help you set it up. They want to help you make money with your site not lose money. Advertising with adbrite is the best decision you will ever make. Adbrite, Adbrite, Adbrite should become your nightly chant before you go to sleep and your morning prayer when you log on to see how much you made.
